Narco Boat!

Looking for an innovative idea out of left field for littoral resupply?

The Marine Corps Times is reporting that the US Marine Corps has been testing an autonomous system inspired by the Narco Boats Drug cartels have been using to attempt to avoid US law enforcement detection.

This system has the potential to be a lower cost and lower risk way of providing resupply in contested environments like we would expect the Indo-Pacific littorals to be in any conflict.

Not only are these vessels low cost and easy to build, they are easy to operate. The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory trained a cook in 21 days to operate the resupply system in islands off the coast of Japan. The fact the cook was based in California while operating the system opens further opportunities to support forward deployed troops from Australia.

This is great example of the small, the smart and the many thinking – and exactly the type of capability Australian industry would be more than capable of delivering for the Australian Defence Force!

The semisubmersible unmanned vessel can deliver two Naval Strike Missiles for the Corps’ anti-ship missile system.
